(James & Kirsty Greenshield Finalists in Seven States of Change)
The Superhero Pilgrimage is the creation, which has evolved as a consequence of winning the Seven States of Change challenge.
Five young men, aged 17-18, and their fathers, or significant male role models, will win the opportunity to embark upon a personal and group journey unlike any other. These men will undertake an initiation on the trek, aligned with indigenous rites of passage.
They will trek one of the most beautiful trails in Australia, whilst overcoming their own self-imposed limitations, and bonding with each other, and their fellow participants, along the way.
To top it off, they will be accompanied by five ‘superheroes’ of Australian society. These are men who have achieved great things in their chosen pursuit. These superheroes will learn just as much as their fellow participants, and they will trek together, as equals.
The young men will lead their fathers. The fathers will learn to be lead by their sons. The superheroes will stand as beacons of hope and, in turn, will be inspired by the tenacity of their young comrades. All members of the initiation will finish the journey inspired, and better equipped as strong leaders of Australian society.
What this means for us personally, is the realization of a dream, and the expansion of our message, which is the importance of nurturing strong leadership in the male youth of our nation. On this trek, men of ‘well-known’ social standing will allow themselves to be vulnerable, in a safe and empowering way, for the purpose of inspiring authentic leadership.
For us it means another step in our ability to restore knowledge of sacred indigenous lore, or ‘Dreaming’, to the younger generation so future generations can best reconnect with the land and our true ancestors. The inclusion of indigenous superhero, Joe Williams, ex-NRL player and world-class boxer, has made this a reality, as he will share an initiation into the Dreaming of the land upon which the men will trek.
And for us it means the realization, on a larger scale, of publicizing the importance of ‘The Welcome Home’ from any initiation into one’s life, as we create a celebratory event for families of the trekkers, as they return ‘Home’.
Winning Seven States of Change is just the beginning of a new way of being in the world for us, as a little family, and as drivers of the vision for The Centre For Resilient Leadership.
